get started with gardening. You don’t have to have seed or seed saving experience to participate, as this event offers a chance to learn how to save different types of seed. Join others who value saving seed from their favorite vegetables, flowers or herbs. Saving vegetable seeds offers the gardener the greatest sense of food security, because if you have seeds, you’ll have food! Herb seeds, roots, tubers (potatoes, sweet potatoes) - all welcome. Aside from saving some money, seed saving lets the gardener select for desirable traits, like earliness, flavor, plant shape and productivity. Some seeds are considered family treasures, saved and passed along several generations as a true family heirloom. The Seed Swap will offer heirloom, organic and a variety of seeds from farmers, local gardeners, and community members. There will also be seed saving information available, and experienced people to answer questions. This year’s Seed Swap is being hosted
by the Carbondale Community Farmers Market, located at Carbondale Community High School. The year-round market is currently in it’s winter season and is held inside the west wing of the high school, along
the Walnut Street entrance. Winter market hours are 9:00 am – Noon. For more information about the seed swap or the market, contact the market’s manager, Angie Kuehl by or by email, or visit the market online.
