Mark anchors WSIL’s 5:00 evening news.
He first came to WSIL in November of 1981, after only two years of college, working a variety of jobs including studio camera, master control operator, news graphics and as a “one-man-band” reporter.
In January of 1983, Mark debuted as a weekend sports anchor and four months later took over as weekday sports anchor. Mark served as Sports Director, covering southern Illinois sports for nearly 17 years. During that time the Southern Illinois Coaches Association presented him with the Merle Jones Award for outstanding journalism.
Mark left WSIL in 1999 to serve as a staff member for Southern Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Nearly three years later, he returned to WSIL and has again worn many hats. Besides anchoring the 5:00 news, his duties include news promotions, director of web operations and special projects.
Although he was born in Kirkwood, Missouri, Mark’s roots are firmly planted in southern Illinois. He attended Carterville Junior High and High School and John A. Logan College. He and his wife Debbie live in Herrin where they are enjoying a second round of parenting, having adopted their three granddaughters.
During his free time Mark serves as an elder at his church, enjoys hanging out with “his girls” and watching sports (in person and on TV). He is a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns and has recently become a fan of FC Bayern Munich.
