Vehicle Collision Sends Four to Hospital

POPE CO. -- A two-vehicle crash in Pope County has injured four people.

Sheriff Jerry Suits says an 18-wheeler coal or gravel truck collided with a passenger vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. It happened on Route 34 near the Pope and Saline County lines.

Ambulances from each county responded. One person had to be airlifted to a hospital. The sheriff's office is working with the Illinois State Police to investigate the crash.

Route 34 just north of the Herod post office will be closed until the scene is cleaned up.
