WSIL -- Happy Reunion in Carbondale received an 83 from the health department in July.

The lone critical violation was for employee drinks that didn't have a lid and straw on them. The most prevalent issue was cleaning. The hood filters above the fryer, small cutting boards and dish machine all had to be cleaned more often.

The inspector asked the restaurant to disassemble the meat slicer for cleaning every day. The table it sits on was also dirty. The vegetable peeler, slicer and mixer attachment also had to be washed, and there was grease on the front of the wok line hood. Happy Reunion was also instructed to repair a condensation leak in the walk-in cooler.

The inspector wrote, "be sure the violations you correct today are continually corrected" and suggested they make a cleaning list and have employees sign off on each task when it's done. A follow-up a week later showed only a few cleaning issues remained.

Management points out there were no food temperature problems and says the cleaning concerns were taken care of right away.

The Eldorado Hardee's is next on our list with an 88.

There were two critical violations here. The first appeared in two different forms. There was an insect problem, and a door wasn't properly sealed to keep bugs and animals out. The other critical issue was raw meats being stored above ready-to-eat foods.

The walls and ceiling and hard to reach areas of the floor also needed to be cleaned.  The problems were fixed within a week.

Wilkey's Airport Café in Mt. Vernon scored a 90. The only critical problem was a hand sink that had several items in it meaning it wasn't accessible at all times.

A freezer had to be defrosted, and some of the wiping cloths for cleaning weren't being soaked in sanitizer between uses.

It was a 92 for Harbor Lite Restaurant and Lounge in Whittington. There were only minor deductions. The floor in the kitchen and walk-in cooler had to be cleaned and repaired. Additionally, the mop sink, shelves in the cooler and vents along the cook line were dirty.

And rounding out the Restaurant Report Card this week is Don Luna in Harrisburg with a 97. The lid on the dumpster was left open, and some food in the prep area wasn't covered properly.
