Murder for Hire Charges Filed Against Adams
FRANKLIN CO. -- A West Frankfort man accused of murdering his wife now faces charges of trying to hire someone to have others killed.
John P. Adams is charged with five counts of solicitation of murder for hire.
West Frankfort Police say Adams, who's in the Franklin County Jail, tried to hire someone to kill "numerous individual family members and a public official."
Adams already faces two counts of murder in the shooting death of Kendra Turner Adams.
Police were called to the couple's home March 31. Investigators said Turner Adams, 52, had been shot in the back of the head. She died the next day at an Evansville, Indiana hospital.
In early June, a judge ordered Adams to undergo a mental health evaluation. He was found fit to stand trial last month. A pretrial hearing in that case is set for Sept. 3.
The solicitation of murder charges are each a class X felony and carry a possible term of 20 to 40 years in prison.
