Man Accused of Murdering Toddler Pleads Not Guilty
WILLIAMSON COUNTY -- A Marion man accused of killing a toddler pleads not guilty.
On Monday, 25-year-old Kody Johnson was in Williamson County on first degree murder charges. He's accused of killing his girlfriend's son, 23-month-old Skyler West France.
"Kody, we know you done it," said Skyler's grandmother April West. "I hope you burn. We know you will."
The toddler died on August 20 at a Saint Louis hospital after suffering internal head injuries.
On Monday, Kody Johnson pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges in the boy's death, but testimony from a detective contradicted that plea.
The detective said, on the stand, Johnson admitted to investigators he was responsible for the boy's death. He testified that Johnson jerked Skyler's arm violently causing him to injure his head.
The boy's mother Andrea became emotional during the testimony and had to be removed. His grandmother says it's been a difficult day for the family.
"I am devastated," said West. "I am speechless at this moment."
More than a dozen friends and family members who showed up to support Johnson declined to comment on the case.
Johnson's pretrial is set for September 30 at the Williamson County Courthouse.
