Homeowner Criticizes Fire Response
SALINE CO. - A homeowner in Saline County learned the hard way Wednesday night about Harrisburg's refusal to cover fire calls outside city limits.
Mike Dudley's house on Old Cain Rd. is just west of Harrisburg. It caught fire just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Dudley says he was cooking when the flames broke out. He couldn't put them out, so he ran to a neighbor's house to call for help
Dudly says Harrisburg Fire Department did not respond even though he lives less than a mile outside the city limits.
"By the time Carrier Mills Department got here, which is more than twice as far as the Harrisburg department, even though the home didn't burn down, it's completely ruined," Dudley said.
The Carrier Mills and Eldorado Fire Departments responded to the fire.
Dudley says the fire damage is contained to the back of the home, but there is smoke and water damage throughout.
Harrisburg's fire department stopped responding to calls outside the city limits last July because of the cost.
