Marion Man Dies After Hit By Car

HERRIN- Police say a man was hit while crossing the street at Herrin City Hall on 300 North Park Ave.

Terry Horn, 68 of Marion stepped into oncoming traffic in front of City Hall in Herrin. It happened around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

The pedestrian stepped into traffic near the middle of the block and failed to yield to the northbound traffic.

Williamson County Coroner, Mike Burke, says Horn was transported to Herrin Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No citation was issued to the driver.

Terry Lee (Butch) Horn

On Friday evening, December 9, 2011, Terry Lee “Butch” Horn of Lake Egypt, Marion, IL., formerly of Maroa, was whisked away by angels after being struck by a vehicle in Herrin.

Terry was born February 11, 1943, in Herrick the son of Ralph and Tennessee (Ginger) Horn.

Terry was blessed to find love in a great woman and married (Carla) Jill Seymour on July 21 1960. Jill went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2004. .They had two children Teri Lynn and Michael Dale.

Terry was retired from Caterpillar in Decatur, Il. He had also been a farmer and a barber. After retirement Terry and Jill loved traveling, camping, canoeing, golfing, and spending time with grandchildren.

In 2005, Terry was blessed to find the second love of his life, Renee Eads. He enjoyed helping her with her job at Clinton schools as an art teacher. On July 7, 2007 Terry and Renee wed in a beautiful ceremony at the Maroa United Methodist Church. They moved to southern Illinois where Terry loved the outdoors and found a beautiful place to call home. They were soul mates, the once-in-a-lifetime kind.

Terry loved spending time outdoors, building things, working with his hands, and caring for his animals. He also loved four wheeling, fishing, motorcycle riding, golfing, making homemade ice cream, eating pies, Jeeps, trucks, hiking, and Cowboy church. He spent many hours making beautiful wood working projects for people he loved. He was a talented man and enjoyed helping others.

Terry loved listening to his step-daughter Andrea (that he loved as his own) singing songs that she had written. He was so proud of her and was looking forward to seeing her graduate from college. He was her biggest fan and dreamed of taking her to Nashville to record her music.

Terry was a good Christian man with a heart as big as the universe! He had a great sense of humor, loved teasing people, especially the kids. He was a kid at heart. When he smiled you could see the sparkle in his eyes and the love in his heart.

Terry was a member of the Maroa United Methodist Church, the Maroa Lions Club, Lake-of-Egypt Country Club, U.A.W. Local #751 Retirees, Member of the Maroa Masonic Lodge. He grew up in Herrick, where everyone knew him as “Butch”.

Terry leaves behind his daughter Teri (Steven) O’Riley of Forsyth, grandchildren Megan and Katie O’Riley of Forsyth, son Michael (Lisa) Horn of Howard Lake MN, grandchildren Tommy and Ellie Horn, step-grandchildren Casey, Cody, and Carly. Terry also leaves behind step-daughter Andrea Eads of Carterville.

Also surviving are sisters Sharol Sarver of Herrick, Joan (Tom) Sager of Shelbyville, and sister-in-law Genelle Horn of Moweaqua. Father-in-law and mother-in-law Ciney and Evelyn Eads of Cerro Gordo. Sister-in-laws Brenda (Bob) Dillow of Monument, CO, and Luellen Eads of Cerro Gordo. Brother-in-law Aaron (Carole) Eads of Monticello. Many nieces and nephews loved him dearly as well.

Preceding him in death were his wife Jill, parents; Ralph and Tennessee Horn, step-father George Sollis, brothers Willis Horn and Chester Horn, and sister Gerole Horn.

Memorials may be made to the Andrea Eads Benefit Account at the Bank of Marion or the Maroa United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes in Decatur Il., on Monday December 12, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at the Maroa United Methodist Church, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 11:00am. Burial will be at Maroa Cemetery in Maroa, IL.

A memorial in Marion will be held at a later date.
