Family: Pravin Did Not Die of Hypothermia

By WSIL Reporter

JACKSON COUNTY-- A shocking twist in the investigation of an SIU student's death.
The family of Pravin Varughese says he was beaten up before he died. That finding comes from the independent autopsy the Varughese family had conducted. They hired a Chicago pathologist who determined the underlying cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Relatives say there was no sign of frostbite on Pravin's body, but there were multiple injuries. That information contradicts the cause of death released by Carbondale police --hypothermia.
Varughese's body was found in a wooded area off Route 13 in Carbondale in February, five days after he went missing. His mother, Lovely, says someone needs to explain what happened to her son.
