Flags Placed For Fallen Soldier
WSIL-- A southern Illinois community is honoring a fallen soldier before his funeral Tuesday.
More than two thousand flags were set up Saturday in honor of Sergeant Joshua Born. Flags were set out in Cape Giardeau, and the entire town of Olive Branch.
Born was killed in Afghanistan last February, and his wife and her family are from the Olive Branch area.
Larry Eckhardt, known as the flag guy, coordinates these patriotic displays throughout the midwest to honor fallen soldiers.
He often relies on volunteers to help him place all the flags.
"These young men give it all for that flag and they should have them" says Eckhardt.
Eckhardt has brought flags to more than 70 funerals throughout the midwest.
The visitation for Long will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 5 at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau.
Funeral services for Sgt. Joshua Born will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 6 at the funeral home with John Windings officiating. Interment will follow at Mound City National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the family to prepare care packages for Josh's unit and will be accepted at the funeral home.
