MT. VERNON -- Jefferson County authorities have arrested 47-year-old Sammy Kehrer for the alleged stabbing of  37-year-old Eric Houser.

Houser died last night at the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club in rural Jefferson County.

"Right now he died from an apparent stab wound to the chest," said Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Jo Marks. "There was an argument on the inside and they took it outside and that's where the incident took place."

Deputies and paramedics were called to the scene around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. Houser was pronounced dead shortly after, and Kehrer was arrested nearby.

"We have enough probable cause to take Mr. Kehrer into custody at this time," said Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch. "All we are looking is to make sure we get all the bases covered and justice is done."

Neighbors say the club is known for serving alcohol.

"I wasn't surprised," said neighbor Charles Steckenrider. "Because you have got an establishment that serves alcohol and anytime you got something like that anything can happen."

The Sheriff's office is still investigating. Keher's being held in the Jefferson County jail and could face additional charges.

"We have enough probable cause at the time to charge him with aggravated battery," said Mulch. "Of course, that charge could become more serious after the results of the autopsy."
