WILLIAMSON CO. -- A Marion man is facing aggravated battery charges after attacking a bus driver with a pen. 

Arthur Wilkins, 56, made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. 

Wilkins was arrested just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators say he assaulted a Rides Mass Transit driver while the bus was traveling along Campground Road in Carterville. 

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Wilkins is being held in the Williamson County Jail on $50,000 bond.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY --  A transit bus driver is recovering after a bizarre attack in the middle of his route.

 
Investigators say a passenger used a ballpoint pen to stab the driver in the face three times.
 
It happened Tuesday afternoon, on a Rides Mass Transit bus traveling along Campground Road in Carterville.
 
The driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Police identify the suspect as Arthur Wilkins.  He was arrested on aggravated battery charges.
 
No word yet what prompted the attack.
