Body Found In Jackson County

JACKSON CO. -- Jackson County authorities have identified the woman whose body was discovered Tuesday morning near Makanda.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the body of Marsha Ann Brown, 40, of Cape Girardeau, was discovered along Potter's Road near the intersection of U.S. 51.

An autopsy is being conducted. Further details, including a cause of death, are not being released at this time.

Authorities in Cape Giradeau and southeast Missouri are assisting in the investigation.

JACKSON CO. -- Authorities have released more information about a death investigation in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the body of a 40-year-old woman was discovered Tuesday morning along Potter's Road near the intersection of U.S. 51 in rural Makanda. A motorist spotted the body around 9:30 a.m. and called 911.

Investigators say they have preliminarily identified the woman but are not releasing her name at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Potter's Road area is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at (618) 687-3822.



JACKSON CO. - A  body of a female was discovered Tuesday morning on a rural road north of Makanda. 

A motorist driving down Potter's Road saw the body and called police about 9:40 a.m.
Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police were on scene for several hours.
Police say the body is that of a white female, but would not provide any further details.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday afternoon to determine the cause of death.
