CARBONDALE - Carbondale Community High School marching band is in the middle of their practice season.  Despite the heat, band camp is continuing as normal with the exception of extra precautions to keep students safe.  "It's hot.  Out of the three years I've been here, this is the hottest by far," says Jacob Gorecki, one of three CCHS Marching Band drum majors.

Greg Townsend, Director of Instrumental Music at CCHS, says that they are taking extra breaks while outside.  "We try to keep the overall attitude positive with the kids.  It's really easy to get negative in this kind of heat, so the more breaks we take, the happier everyone will be," says Townsend.

Despite the excessive heat and humidity, the show must go on.  The students continue to keep a positive attitude while practicing, despite the near 100 degree temperatures.  Townsend says he's proud of his students, and hopes they keep up the good work.  "They do all of the stuff that makes them good.  All the staff can do is point them in the right direction and make sure they're safe while they are doing it.
