Too Much Sugar Bad for the Brain

Story Updated: May 16, 2012

CNN -- Here's another reason to cut back on the sugar. A new study finds too much of the sweet stuff is bad for your brain.

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles say rats who were fed high-fructose corn syrup had a hard time finding their way through a maze.

The sweetener is found in soda, baby food and processed snack foods.
Health officials say the average American consumes more than 40-pounds of high-fructose corn syrup a year.

The study was published in the Journal of Physiology.
