SIH Joins BJC Collaborative
Story Updated: Sep 10, 2013
CARBONDALE -- A new partnership is in the works for Southern Illinois Healthcare.
The group based out of Carbondale has joined the BJC Collaborative based out of St. Louis. The network of now six healthcare providers has facilities in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas.
SIH President and CEO Rex Budde is excited about the partnership. He says it'll give southern Illinois doctors access to everything in the BJC network.
"Part of the conversations we'll have is what are the best practices? How are we solving problems? The ability to do that with four large institutions and Blessings, I don't want to leave them out, is very powerful," said Budde.
BJC Group President Sandra Van Trease says the collaborative will be beneficial once the Affordable Care Act takes affect. All the facilities can work together legislatively.
"In our respective state capitals and in Washington, DC, we want to be a part of the solution and not just reacting to the changes that occur," said Trease.
The collaborative is now made up now of 35 hospitals, more than 58,000 employees, and 7,300 physicians.
Budde says the partnership opens the lines of communication.
"What is the right place at the right time and how do we make it as easy as possible so the families know what's going on with their loved ones? The transition and care between organizations is effective and it'll open the doors for a lot of personal conversations about new processes and procedures to help move new patients around."
SIH will remain an independent entity as it works with the other facilities in the BJC Collaborative.
