Accident on I-64 in Washington County

WASHINGTON CO. -- Illinois State Police (ISP) has issued a correction in regards to a traffic accident on Interstate 64 in Washington County.

ISP says there were no fatalities in the crash as they had previously reported.

Trooper David Sneed tells News 3 one person suffered serious injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment.

UPDATE 10:10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012

WASHINGTON CO. -- Both westbound lanes of Interstate 64 have reopened after a fatal accident Thursday morning.

Trooper David Sneed with Illinois State Police in Du Quoin says a pickup truck ran into a semi near mile post 37.5. The semi had slowed because of an accident further ahead.

Sneed says the driver of the pickup was killed in the crash. No names are being released at this time.

WASHINGTON CO. -- Illinois State Police report numerous accidents in Washington County Thursday due to slick road conditions.

Trooper David Sneed says a passing lane is now open following a fatal accident involving a semi on Interstate 64 westbound at mile post 37.5. Police urge drivers to slow down and use caution.
