Illinois is among the many states to offer standard end-of-life options through binding Advance Directives and Powers of Attorney. Those topics will be the subject of an Advance Directives Training Day with leaders from St. Mary’s Good Samaritan, Palliative Care and Social Services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.Return to event list.
Among the topics to be covered in the training are life-support measures as well as artificial nutrition and hydration and pastoral care assistance provided by Good Samaritan when families must deal with and end-of-life experience.
Advance care planning is the process of communication and documentation to identify a patient’s preferences about goals of care and identify an authorized proxy who can provide competent, confident and informed representation for health care choices when patients are unable to express their wishes. Advance Directives are written instructions to guide those around someone who is unable to communicate wishes to health care providers.
