Children and their parents are invited. The Park staff have recently announced that their playground and park facility are completely tobacco-free. The celebration will include a variety of activities for children such as a poster contest, scavenger hunt and knighting of those in attendance. Under the new policy, all areas of Castle Park are tobacco-free with tobacco-free signs created by children reminding visitors to comply.Return to event list.
The Castle Park Tobacco Free Celebration is part of the We Choose Health—Southernmost Illinois initiative and was made possible by funds received from the Illinois Department of Public Health through the Community Transformation Grant from CDC. This initiative is focused on creating smoke-free public places throughout Southern Illinois. Additionally, the We Choose Health—Southernmost Illinois initiative also assists with smoke-free multi-unit housing, and assists schools and worksites in adopting policies which promote and support wellness.
