Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 1975, “Ragtime,” the musical, has a book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty and was the winner of 6 Tony awards in 1998 including Best Book, Score, and Orchestrations. The novel was adapted for film in 1981, directed by Milos Forman, and featured a star-filled cast including James Cagney, Pat O’Brien (the last film appearance for these actors), Samuel L. Jackson, Jeff Daniels, Elizabeth McGovern, Mandy Patinkin, Mary Steenburger and Howard E. Rollins, Jr.
“Ragtime” plays October 24-27 with performances Thursday – Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $6 for students and can be obtained by phone, online, or in person at the McLeod Theater and Arena Box Offices, Monday – Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are also available at the McLeod Theater Box Office one hour before each performance. Audiences are encouraged to purchase their tickets early as advance sale is strong.
There will be a pre-show lecture at 1 p.m. in the MCMA Dean’s Conference Room prior to the Sunday matinee. The pre-show lecture is free and open to the public; however tickets are required for the performance.
