School of Music Wind Ensemble and Studio Jazz Orchestra Concert

This first part of this two part concert will feature the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Chris Morehouse. Titled "Wind Band Classics" the program features three wonderful pieces: First Suite in E-flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst, Trauermusik by Richard Wagner, Divertimento for Band by Vincent Persichetti.Return to event list.
Part 2, entitled "Jazz Ensemble Standards," brings the musical talents of the Studio Jazz Orchestra to the stage under the baton of Richard Kelley. The program features timeless numbers including This Could Be the Start of Something Big, composed by Quincy Jones for the Count Basie Orchestra, Big Swing Face composed by Bill Potts for the Buddy Rich Band, Told You So, composed by Bill Holman for the Count Basie Orchestra, I’m Beginning to See the Light composed by Duke Ellington, and Four Brothers composed by Jimmy Giuffre for the Woody Herman Orchestra.
Tickets for the “double-bill” concert are $12 for adults and $6 for students and can be obtained by phone, online or, in person at the McLeod Theater and SIU Arena box office, Mon. – Fri. 12 noon -5 p.m. Tickets are also available at Shryock Auditorium one hour before start of performance only.
