For hundreds of years quilts have been used for much more than warmth during cold winter nights. A beautiful combination of art and object, quilts commemorate milestones and record family trees.Return to event list.
During the Civil War, when families were being torn apart and loved ones lost forever, quilts became even more important—transforming from blankets to heirlooms.
An exhibition of quilts from this era will be on display at The National Quilt Museum until October 8 in a show entitled From the Pieces of a Nation: Civil War Period Quilts.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and on Sundays, through November 30, from 1 to 5 PM. Admission is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and older, $5 for students, and children 12 and under are admitted at no charge.
