The Buckminster Fuller Future RSO, SIU Carbondale's Morris Library & Special Collections Research Center, and Southern Illinoisans Against Fracturing Our Environment (SAFE) have come together to present American Book Award and Delta Award (for Literature in Southern Illinois) winning author Jeff Biggers on The Other Southern Illinois: How Our Region Changed the U.S. (and Why We Must Defend It). This event, including both talk and reception to follow, will have freeReturn to event list.
admission and be open to the general public.
Biggers will be sharing his continuing narrative of the legacy of progressive resistance in Southern Illinois in response to the human rights violations and environmental destruction that is the concomitant extraction industry's legacy. The plot to this story has further thickened with the recent passage of Illinois SB1715, a bill regulating, and thus opening the door to, mass fracking industrialization of southeastern Illinois. Jeff's talk will be followed by an extended Question & Answer period and reception.
