Volunteer Opportunity: Maintenance of Invasive Species Demonstration Plot
Date(s) & Time(s)::
March 30, 2013 at 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM
Location: Giant City State Park Visitor’s Center, Makanda, IL
Please join the Friends of Giant City and the River to River Cooperative Weed Management Area for invasive species removal in the Invasive Species Demonstration Plot at Giant City State Park on March 30th. We will meet in the Giant City Visitor’s Center parking lot at 9:00 am for brief instruction. The Demonstration Plot is an important educational tool. In a 3-acre area, invasive plants, such as Oriental bittersweet, Japanese honeysuckle, autumn olive, and multiflora rose, have been controlled in half of the area, with the remaining portions left uncontrolled. This provides visitors to the park with a visual comparison of treated and untreated sites and lets them see firsthand the benefits of controlling invasive plants. Please come out and help us maintain this valuable resource!Return to event list.
Please consider work attire – long sleeve shirts, long pants, and close-toed shoes. Work gloves and tools will be provided. Volunteer hours may go toward SIUC Saluki Volunteer Corps and SIUC Ambassador Award. Contact the River to River CWMA with questions or to give an RSVP (not required).
