REGION FROM BELOW COMPASS, a group of artists, writers, and environmentalists living in greater Midwest, work together to investigate and re-imagine a region. As IG’s 2013 resident scholars, COMPASS will present a lecture, workshop, and lead a two-day “drift”, together with SIU and community members, as they engage in “cartography with our feet”. "Region from Below" addresses such theoretical notions as: How does land itself express itself as a region? How do less powerful subjects in a region make themselves visible and audible?
