Small Farm Dreams is a four hour interactive workshop in which prospective farmers assess their readiness to begin a farming enterprise and plan their next steps for getting started. Food Works is offering this workshop, to be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on February 4 at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center in Carbondale and February 7 at Shawnee College in Ullin. The cost is $30, which includes a light supper. Additional farm partners pay only $10.
Registration is required: to register, visit website.
Small Farm Dreams features a panel of experienced sustainable farmers that share stories of beginning and operating a small farm business, including successes and failures. Participants will learn about a variety of farm enterprises and be able to ask questions about the genesis and development of successful farm businesses. The workshop will also cover resource assessment, goal setting, financial planning and marketing. Small Farm Dreams provides participants with introductory knowledge about what it takes to start and manage their own farm-based business, and decide whether this is the path they are ready to take.
