Neil LaBute is one of the most controversial and exciting playwrights of the last decade. With terse, rhythmic and highly colloquial dialogue, his plays explore themes of gender relations, political correctness, and masculinity. “Reason to Be Pretty,” one of his most well known plays, tells the story of a man whose relationship explodes when he makes an off-handed comment about his girlfriend’s appearance. The explosion propels the character into a journey that challenges his perceptions and leads him to self-realization about the value of physical appearance.
The production is directed by Department of Theater Chair, J, Thomas Kidd.
There are roles for 2 men and 2 women. Actors interested in auditioning may sign up for an audition time at the Department of Theater office Mon. – Fri., 8:30 am – 4 pm (closed between 12 noon – 1 pm), or by calling 618-453-5741. Alternatively actors may sign up at the audition site one half hour before call.
