Date(s) & Time(s)::
November 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM
Location: Southern Illinois University Carbondale Campus, IL
The SIU Go Cold Turkey Bowl, held in support of the Great American Smokeout, is back for a second year! Two-person teams (one smoker and one nonsmoker) will bowl with frozen turkeys to commemorate their commitment to go “cold turkey” for one smoke-free day. It will take place under the Faner breezeway just north of the Student Center.Return to event list.
The event has an added benefit – the entry fee to participate will be a non-perishable food item or one dollar that will used to purchase a food item. Smokers may also choose to “adopt a turkey” by contributing $5, in lieu of buying a daily pack of cigarettes, which will be used to purchase food. Adopted turkeys and other food donations will be given to local food pantries and shelters.
If participants decide to make this commitment, they can come to the Wellness Center to receive their Certificate of Achievement the next day. These individuals will also be entered into a drawing for a grand prize in honor of their smoking cessation efforts.
