Paducah Symphony Orchestra announces 2013 Young Artist Concerto Competition

The competition, sponsored by both the Paducah Symphony Orchestra and Murray State University, is divided into two divisions– one for pianists and one for all other orchestral instruments. One performer from each division will receive a $1,000 cash prize, an invitation to perform as guest soloist with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra during one 2013-2014 Season concert and a music scholarship to Murray State University (if eligible). Only high school students (grades 9-12 and 14 years old by January 1, 2013) are eligible. Only one movement of a concerto, or equivalent of approximately 15 minutes, for soloists will be performed. The composition must be a solo with standard symphony orchestra accompaniment that is readily available through commercial sources. Music must be performed from memory. Application materials must be submitted online by January 1, 2013 and can be accessed by visiting website. Information for submission of music and the $50 entry fee will be sent electronically after application is received in the PSO office. Completed applications will be collected electronically in the PSO Office at 201 Broadway in Paducah. Finalists from each division will be selected to perform live for the Competition Finals, a free event, on February 3, 2013 at Murray State University.
