The SIU Department of Theater will present a world premiere production, “Three Seasons of Cora,” written by Erin R. Zimmerman. “Three Seasons of Cora” follows the story of a young woman, in 18th century Virginia, who is forced into marriage to settle family debts. Unable to conceive, Cora arranges to take her widowed sister’s new born child. As the estate passes first from her father, to her husband and then to her son, Cora watches as the land is ravaged for its agricultural and mineral value, wondering if her spirit has been ravaged in the same way. The play, although not a retelling, was inspired by the myth of Persesphone, daughter to Zeus and Demeter, Goddess of crops and the harvest.Return to event list.
