Annual Golconda City Cemetery Walk

Location: Golconda, IL
Tours begin at 3pm, then every 15 minutes until 4:30pm. tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-12. Proceeds are for cemetery maintenance.Return to event list.
Door prize will be a DVD of the 2011 Cemetery Walk. Refreshments while you wait for the next tour will be a box social.
The earliest grave known is 1830; the last burial was in 1986.
This year, visitors will meet Naomi Moore Lowth Sim who came here with her family in 1818, Henry D. Baker who came to Pope County as a young teen and George Washington Moyers who was born, lived and died in Pope County. Three more characters will be portrayed. All will be in period costume.
Michael J. McNerey, A Carbondale archaeologist and historian, well known for his knowledge of the style of tombstones used in the past, will be speaking.
