McLeod Summer Playhouse presents the hot Broadway razzle-dazzle musical “Chicago,” July 6 – 8 and July 13 – 15. Set in Chicago during the prohibition era, this amazing musical tells the story of a “would be” starlet who rises to fame when she is arrested for killing her lover... and all that jazz! The musical is based on the 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, a criminal reporter of the time. It has a book by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb, lyrics by Fred Ebb and music by John Kander.Return to event list.
The play is directed and choreographed by J. Thomas Kidd, the chair of the Department of Theater at SIU Carbondale. Sets and lights are designed by Steven Williams. Costumes are designed by Tetsuo Tamanaha. Mike Hanes conducts the on stage orchestra, and Kevin Smith provides musical direction.
“Chicago” plays July 6 – 8 and July 13 – 15, with performances Fri. & Sat. at 7:30 pm and Sun. at 2 pm. Tickets to the production are $25 for adults and $10 for students, age 17 and under, and are available by calling 618-453-6000, online or in person at the McLeod Theater or Shryock Box Office Mon. - Fri., 12 – 5 pm and also at the McLeod Theater Box Office one hour before each performance. The show is recommended for mature audiences.
